Build Simulation
Simulation of the 3D print process is paramount to industrialization of additive manufacturing.

Additive manufacturing is a highly complex process with many variables. This leads many companies to struggle with generating quality, repeatable output from the additive manufacturing process. Siemens Digital Industries Software has recognized this challenge and is providing a suite of solutions to assist users with generating high-quality first article prints. Whether you are just getting started with additive, or you are an expert user of additive technologies, you can benefit from these tools as you work to achieve that “first time right” print.

Build Simulation

Optimize your additive manufacturing build quality from three different perspectives with NX.
Build Optimization

Print quality is dependent on many factors, but possibly the most important factor is the orientation of the part in the build tray. Siemens’ AM Build Optimizer is a solution that takes the guesswork out of printed part orientation. Based upon powerful simulation technology, AM Build Optimizer uses a computational approach to simulate multiple orientations in parallel determining the optimal orientation for parts in the build tray. The orientations generated by the AM Build Optimizer can then be fed back into NX for population of the build tray.

Path Optimization

For additive manufacturing experts, Siemens is developing a solution called the AM Path Optimizer. This solution looks at the additive manufacturing process at a meso level to identify areas of very local overheating that can result in deformations or problems with consistent material deposition. After identifying these areas, the AM Path Optimizer then generates a corrected deposition path that alleviates these areas of concern resulting in a print with consistent deposition and managed thermal characteristics.
Process Optimization

For those users who wish to go beyond part orientation in their quest for ultimate first article quality, the NX AM Process Optimization tool uses patented technology to simulate the powder bed print process. This solution can identify areas of concern that may result in part distortion or recoater collisions and can also automatically generate compensated part geometry. AM Process Optimizer gives the AM operator a definite advantage when working towards final article quality from the additive manufacturing process.
