Design for Additive Manufacture
Reshaping everything we know about product development

Additive manufacturing is changing the way products are designed as well as how they are manufactured.
NX is an integrated platform that meets the unique challenges of designing, optimizing, and building metal and plastic components using the latest additive manufacturing methods. Breakthrough technology delivers advanced methods for designing lightweight parts, while design validation checkers ensure manufacturability.

Experience NX Scan to Part. Easy scan to CAD workflow for reverse engineering.

Start designing with your free trial of NX Scan to Part, the software that utilizes reverse engineering tools to leverage imported scanned 3D data in your design process. In just minutes, you will be exploring how Scan to Part reduces design time with reverse engineering capabilities. Learn how Scan to Part allows designers to combine facets, surfaces and solids in a single 3D model, without requiring data translation.
Design for Additive Manufacture is made up of powerful features that allow you to build a custom solution. Read more about these features below.
Design Rules

NX gives you the tools you need to ensure your design can be manufactured correctly using additive manufacturing methods. By identifying issues such as overhangs, areas that need support, assembly issues and more, NX helps you to deliver products that can be manufactured the first time, while saving money and materials used.

Lattice Structures

NX helps you to deliver lightweight components without compromising on structural integrity. The integrated lattice tool makes it easy to embed lattice structures inside of a solid part or to simply incorporate them as part of an overall design. The lattices are complex geometry represented as facets, which you can then modify and change directly using Convergent Modeling™ technology.
Manufacturing Preparation

To transition additive manufacturing to an industrial production process, it must have digital integration between design, production and automation, and include control and monitoring of machine performance. To accomplish this, our solutions include NX, Simcenter, a robust suite of simulation software and test solutions, and elements of Siemens’ Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) portfolio for manufacturing automation. Our integrated solution will also use smart product models through all phases without the need for data conversion between applications or processes.
